Rainy morning activities

Today was the second day in a row that it rained in the early morning. And that can be challenging seeing as DM wakes with the birds.
Yesterday Mama and DM walked around Lake Harriet at 6:30am. When we returned I was soaked through and DM was well rested and dry. Thank goodness for modem strollers!
Today's rainy morning activities included drinking "coffee" (warmed milk and honey) and baking banana bread.
DM was extremely helpful. He mashed the bananas, ate some bananas, poured in most of the ingredients, and stirred a little. He learned about substituting and the importance of putting the ingredients IN the bowl as opposed to on the floor. Life is full of lessons.

Garden, popsicles, and a carousel

This week DM spent a morning with Grandma and Grandpa at their house. They had a walk and DM explored the garden; always a fun and fascinating classroom.

The next day DM had his very first popsicle (thank you Grandma!): pineapple. Mmmm. He was very excited about it. In addition to licking it he liked how it splintered when we smashed it on the sidewalk.
The excitement!!

Today DM and Mama went to see the Como Park (Cafesijan's) Carousel. Apparently DM wasn't too sure about riding the 99 year-old carousel because he howled as soon as we stepped on the platform. Instead he was happy to run around the outside of the ride. And so we did.

Here are a couple more pics from our adventurous day today:

Back in the saddle!

After a 6+ month layoff, it's about time to get the ol' blog up and running again.

Team Hynes had an outing today to the May Day/Cinco de Mayo parade today near Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis.  It was part of a busy day, including DM's first trip to the Minneapolis Farmer's Market, another stop by one of his favorites, the Midtown Global Market and then on to the parade.  It may sound like hyperbole, but I'm comfortable saying that the parade, sponsored by the 'Heart of the Beast Theater' is a can't miss event, one of the best things to do in the Twin Cities each year.

Desmond has become quite a dancer in his 17+ months on the planet, as you can see from his sweet, swingin' moves in the video below (and a second where he's just enjoying a fun drum line):

I really hope this is the first of many more frequent updates to the blog.  Check back often(ish)!

A Night Apart

On September 28th, more than ten months after DM graced our lives, Matt and I finally mustered up the courage to spend a night away from him. We drafted a wordy how-to list on DM, kissed him, and made the short drive South to the picturesque town of Hastings. Matt and I spent the night at the historic Rosewood Inn and it was a fun and relaxing night. We are both extremely grateful to Erin and Carole for showering our boy with TLC and for giving us a night of uninterrupted sleep after some 300 uneasy nights. It was wonderful(!) but we were glad to love up our little one in the morning.

Hanging in Ezie's Kitchen

We spent this morning in fun, relaxing fashion just hanging out with dear friends in their kitchen. Christa and I drank tea and caught up, Ezra strummed on his guitar and generously shared his toys (carefully selecting baby friendly ones for DM), and Desie explored his surroundings along with his thoughtfully selected toys. A lovely morning, thanks C and E!
